Day 2, Blogs.      Day3 Social Media & Twitter.       Day4 Wikis & Edmodo                              Day5 Web3.0 & more

Project Work during course, in groups of 2 or 3 to do a Blog and/or Edmodo and start using Twitter.
Try to mix groups for Projects “Sts who know something about web2 & those who don’t”

Student Presentations      Around 10 mins each

Lets get Cracking
Put Sts in Groups. Questions, while answering Q’s prepare Video below.
 7 Questions      “What is … Web 2.0, website, webpage, E-Learning, Blended-Learning, Mobile-Learning, ICT”?

1 Web2.0
Let the clip explain
Show clip stop at 1.05mins. Groups what did they understand from the clip

To understand Web 2.0 we need to go back in time to its predecessor…

Web 1.0
This was back in the early 1990’s when on Internet you could only read published information, as you would a newspaper.
            “You had no voice.”
The website spoke to the website visitor & that was that.
One-way communication.

Web 2.0
In the early/ mid 2000’s websites spoke to the website visitor & allowed the website visitor to speak back.
Via comments on the webpage, upload pictures / videos, all from your own Internet space via applications, Blogs, Wikis, Social Media such as Facebook, Twitter etc.
Thus encouraging people to collaborate and share information online
            “You have a voice”
Two-way communication; commonly known as “User Generated Content”

2 Website
Is a location on Internet that has one or more webpages.
http://www.theguardian.com/uk             Open Guardian

3 Webpage
When you enter website it’s what you click on. Click on page link on Guardian website

4 E-Learning
Learning via Internet, (Distance Learning)         Question to Sts “Pros & Cons”. Pros. Flexibility to fit sts day-to-day life, Mobility to do it where you like, at home in a café. Etc Cons, Need a computer, distractions at home, self-discipline, etc
“Successful E-learning depends on the self motivation of the individual to study effectively”

5 Blended-Learning
Is a mixture of E-learning with more traditional classroom methods.

6 Mobile-Learning
Is E-learning using a mobile device, tablet, phone. ” Any time, Any place, Anywhere” Like the Martini Rosso Advert

7 ICT
“Information & Communications Technology” Is any communication device or application: radio, television, mobile phone, computer, tablet, hardware, software, satellite systems etc)

What do I need to get started?
You’ll need an I.C.T., which can connect you to the web and tools to use with it.
Q’s to Sts: “What are Web Tools?”   (Blogs, Wikis, Social Media, Bookmarking Tools, Games & Quizzes, Online Storage, Edmodo etc)
“Lets look at the list below”
Web 2.0 teaching tools        Webpage

The link below is only the tip of the Web 2.0 iceberg.

So, Web 2.0 in 4 points       write the 3 words on board
1.         It’s Interactive
When you go to the website there’s something to do, something to create.
2.         It’s Accessible
Accessibility from any operating system. (Software that runs a computer, i.e. windows, Linux, Mac OS X etc).  “Any time, any place any where”.
3.           It’s Collaborative
A lot of different ways for other people to contribute to what you have created.
4.         It’s Blended-Learning

This quote is Web 2.0 Write on Board
“Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand.” 450BC Confucius; a Chinese philosopher

Brain storm ideas in small groups why web 2.0 is important in Todays Education.
10 Reasons why Web 2.0 is important in
Todays Education

1.         Our students have grown up with The Internet.             They’re always Tweeting, Chatting, What’s apping.    What they like will encourage them to learn.

2.         Students will be applying for jobs that don’t yet exist. Facebook only started 11 years ago.         Future jobs you’ll need to be “computer literate”

3.         Independent learning at the student’s own pace.         Student centred & student in charge of learning

4.         The teacher is no longer the only source of knowledge.                       Internet has changed that.             The teacher is not the driver, rather the vehicle.

5.         Internet lets you study anywhere, even in “Starbucks”.                      The classroom walls have been taken away.

6.         Encourages questions such as, “why?” & “how?” avoids remembering “Parrot Fashion”

7.         Teamwork.   Project work enables students to choose the part they enjoy while keeping in touch with the group via the web.

8.         Student-teacher contact and correction can be instant via Internet

9.         The textbook is no longer the central item of learning.

10.      Imagination.      Students come up new ways to do new or old things encouraging their imagination

11.      Web 2.0 helps develop life long learning skills “Get into Learning”

These are just the tip of the iceberg. I’m sure you can come up with many more reasons why Web 2.0 is important in today’s education.

Here is a selection of clips/videos to give you some ideas of what we can get up to in a digital classroom.

Questions & discussion after each clip
Questions to be asked related to each video, (advantages disadvantages, what ICTs are used & how are they used, teacher reaction to web 2.0 & ICTs, what changes have they seen in their students, has learning improved, etc.

What were each group doing (computer centre, interactive white board, use a device to measure force & a reading group)
What did you like & not like about the class, (Sts working alone on computer, very quick, hands on push & pull, how often use ict- everyday

What I.C.T’s did we see in class – interactive white board, tablets, teacher controlling with her tablet. The tablet has become a part of everyday life. Students motivated & self assured using the tablet. Enjoying school more. Using video about star constellations. Teacher shares a presentation with sts via her tablet. Sts work together. Using quiz to check learning. Teacher can see on her tablet what the sts are doing. Encourage exploration of night sky. Encourage stimulus. Motivates sts.

Technology can enhance learning, motivate & inspire sts. Guided reading 80% of sts use English as an additional language. Blended reading class. Future skills to enter jobs market. Introducing coding. Blended-learning running on the spot & then seeing their pulse rate.

Don’t need to be an ict expert. Using comic strip app in Volcano class. Ict used in science, maths lessons. Playing a game & learning at the same time. Fun, learning is a game.

Ict in sport, science, taking photos, videos, it’s their textbook, dairy everything.

Ict takes learning outside the class. Self study at home & contact with teacher which could be limited to answer question at a certain time) All working on the same project in class encouraging collaboration. The teacher can see what sts are writing. More engaged. Preparing sts for the future.

The teacher can see what sts are writing. Sts working together. Improvement of less able students. Teachers of all age groups enjoying using Ict.

Child Protection
Round table discussion of what are the problems involved. (grooming, cyber bulling online pornography, radicalisation, inappropriate Content, Sexting)& how to prevent them.

On Line Grooming:     Is when someone builds an emotional connection with a child to gain their trust for the purposes of sexual abuse or exploitation.

Cyberbulling On Line:            One of the biggest differences between cyber bullying and face-to-face bullying is that it can be hard to get away from. Young people could be bullied anywhere, anytime – even when they’re at home.
Risks children face online: Cyberbullying
Inappropriate Content:
Content containing swearing; that encourage vandalism, crime, terrorism, racism, eating disorders, even suicide.
Pictures, videos or games which show images of violence or cruelty to other people or animals,
Unmoderated-chatrooms – where there’s no one supervising the conversation and barring unsuitable comments.
            Gambling sites
Sexting:           Sexting is the sending or receiving of sexually explicit or sexually suggestive images, messages, or video via a mobile phone or the Internet. This has the potential to haunt a teen for the rest of his or her life.

The best way to deal with children on the Internet is, from the very first day educate them about the positive side of the digital world but also the bad; you don’t want to frighten them but it is important that children are aware of the risks involved.

Remember always look carefully at “privacy settings”

Here are some useful sights
